The Magisterium of Pope Benedict XVI on the family is a providential gift to 'people of the third millennium, in continuity with the words and witness of Pope John Paul II, who in his long papacy returned to marriage and family centrality and dignity never before so clearly identified, both within the Church that for all mankind. That is why the family dispute, that the Forum has launched more than fifteen years, and now represents a real social emergency for the country's agenda in many lines of action, comprise a broad range: from the educational challenge on reconciling family and work, by recognizing the work of family care to protect the dignity of life from conception until its natural end, the family support to disabled people and children in difficulty to the preservation of the identity of the family as "a natural society founded on marriage 'within the meaning of Article. 29 of the Constitution.

In this sense, the request for a tax-sized family, which in 2008 raised more than a million signatures delivered to the President, obviously has a place of honor among operational priorities of family associations gathered in the Forum, for several reasons: first of all because today - and for too many years - the tax unfairly penalizes families with children and with family commitments, and should remedy this inequity, and secondly because in too many cases, the birth of a child is a source of impoverishment for the family, and this is not worthy of a civilized country, and thirdly because they have a tax that recognizes the family expenses, and rewarding the families that their children receive in-house also means recognizing that the family and social the younger generation is a public good, social capital, an irreplaceable part of the heritage of our country.

is it true that not all interventions support are truly "family friendly", but sometimes, while "bringing money to the families' individual premiums, welfare, life paths and fragmented responsibility away. It is therefore necessary to find a "new Italian approach to family policies," who can do the examples of good practices and failures of other countries, defending the social significance of family constitutionally defined.

But this also implies a strong effort of economic support, including tax reform is only a first but necessary and urgent step, because recognition of the value of certain family spends a clear path from anthropology, but also requires concrete actions. Thought and action, culture and substance, this is the mix that families ask urge the policy in these difficult times but also full of opportunities: when, if not today, at a time when for the first time in many years, almost all the key leaders of the various political camps say the centrality of the family and the urgency of concrete policies?
