DYSLEXIA: AID SATISFACTION. CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE NOW PROTECTED
(ASCA) - Roma, 29 September - After a long legislative process, and 'was approved today by the Senate, the law recognizes and defines some specific learning disorders (ASD) in school such as dyslexia , dysgraphia, dyscalculia and dysorthography. A rule that was approved today in the deliberation of the seventh Standing Committee (Public education, cultural heritage, scientific research, entertainment and sport) that recognizes the existence of these disorders by stimulating the school in early detection and defining the locations of the diagnostic. There is'''satisfaction because 'Today's approval comes after a long rulemaking process that attests to the existence and extending legal protection to about 350,000 students, representing 5% of the population in age' school, who are suffering from these disorders,''he said the chairman of the AID (Italian Association of dyslexia), Rosabianca Leo.
The law, which will be 'a budget of 2 million euro in total for the years 2010-2011, provides for the right to use the compensation measures and dispensers throughout the school curriculum including the Universities' and ensure the preparation of teachers and school leaders. For households will 'also given the opportunity' to take advantage of flexible working hours. In addition, if the diagnosis is not available at the facilities of the NHS, the law by 'chance' to carry them out at accredited facilities.
''I'm satisfied, even as a parent - says Leo - 'cause the law recognizes finally after many battles the existence of dyslexia and other specific learning disorders by stimulating the school in early detection and defining the areas of diagnostic and educational . We are already 'working with the Ministry of Education, which we appreciated the will' to address this issue, relating to guidelines on the law. Sure and 'we're just at the beginning of a journey that must' be initiated by schools, especially on the issue of management training schools and the structures of the NHS. The text and 'certainly a leap in quality' than in the past but should be improved both in terms of the assessment on its actual application is for example the inclusion of penalties for those who do not meet the legal requirements. We recognize, as an association, that things do not change quickly but the approval of today gives us more 'power to improve the text and to better protect the rights of people with disorders of dyslexia. Finally, thanks go to all the senators and deputies who in recent years have pledged to pass the law.
would also like to thank the Foundation Telecom Italy, partner of our Association for their cooperation has assured us that in taking forward major initiatives for training, information and support to students even in the absence of this rule. Projects on which the Foundation Telecom Italy invests 1.5 million Euros and that tomorrow will be further developed throughout the country in support of 'educational institution.''
