WELFARE: ITALY LAST IN EUROPE MATERNITY SHOPPING 'AND FAMILY
(ASCA) - Roma, August 28 - Italy lagging behind the European Union in spending on family and motherhood '. As is apparent from the last report'' General economic situation of the country''on the 2009 for these two items Italy spends about 1, 2% of gross domestic product, compared to 2% of the average EU-27 and 2.1% of ' EU-15. Led by Denmark (3.7%), Luxembourg (3.2%), Sweden (3.0%) and Finland (2.9%), the ranking for the 15 EU sees Italy testify to last post together with Spain and Portugal. Considering instead the share of spending across all social protection benefits, in the ranking of Europe to our country and the 27 'next to last, ahead only of Poland.
If we consider instead the entire Italian public spending for welfare - adds the Treasury - the relative share of family support and motherhood is equal to only 4.7%, against a European average of 8%. Italy lags behind only Poland (4.5%), resulting in not only far from unattainable Luxembourg 16.6% and 14.7% Irish, but also from 10.6% of Germans and 8, 5% the French.
